Salary to Hourly Calculator

What your salary really pays per hour worked.

Hourly rate

Daily (5 day week)

Weekly

Biweekly
$2,500.00
Monthly
$5,416.67

Gross pay, before tax. Drop the paid weeks below 52 to model unpaid time off. The math works in any currency, the symbol is just a symbol.

You are salaried, it is 7pm on a Saturday, and you are answering work email. Somewhere in the back of your head a question forms. What am I actually being paid for this hour?

This calculator answers it. Enter your salary and your honest weekly hours, not the contract's 40, and see your true hourly rate. The gap between the two numbers is information. It helps you weigh a raise against shorter weeks, size up a contracting offer, or decide whether that recurring meeting deserves you.

No judgment either way. Just the number, so you decide with your eyes open.

Questions

How do I work out my hourly rate from my salary?

Divide your annual salary by the hours you actually work in a year. On a standard 40 hour week over 52 weeks that is salary divided by 2,080. The calculator shows it instantly, plus daily, weekly, biweekly, and monthly equivalents.

Why does my real hourly rate matter?

Because salaried hours drift. If 65,000 a year sounds fine at 40 hours but you routinely work 55, your true rate just dropped by more than a quarter. Set hours per week to what you really work and see the honest number.

Can I use this to compare a salary against contracting?

Yes, as a starting point. Convert the salary to hourly, then remember a contract rate has to also cover benefits, unpaid gaps, and self-employment costs, so contractors typically need a noticeably higher rate to match a salary.
